New Special Education Course Numbers
Beginning this fall, graduate students will note a new course number prefix – SPE. The prefix change reflects the growing attention to special education at Martin Luther College. New courses are being created and offered in both the undergraduate and graduate programs, prompting the need for new course numbers. The following new and existing graduate courses are affected:

Completing a capstone project can be exciting but also intimidating. The opportunity is exciting because it allows the graduate student to address a problem of practical, personal interest and importance. It can be intimidating because ownership for the project lies completely with the learner, not the instructor. In consultation with an advisor, the student sets the parameters and time frame for the project. Here are some tips students may find helpful.

Graduate Programs under Construction
In response to recent requests, MLC is developing new programs to target specific ministry needs: a Master of Science in Educational Administration for principals and early childhood directors, a Master of Theology for teachers and staff ministers, and a state licensure option in learning disabilities.

MLC Graduate Students Are Bloggers!
In recent months, several MLC graduate students have had articles published in the MLC blog "Issues in Lutheran Education." As Lutheran school leaders, they stimulate professional conversation among peers on topics such as student retention, special education, and flipped classrooms. The blog has about 500 followers and has been viewed nearly 20,000 times since its introduction one year ago.

Master's Grads Become MLC Adjuncts
MLC has recently approved several of its master’s program alumni as adjuncts for continuing education courses. These graduates display leadership in ministry, in scholarship, and in teaching ability. MLC has tapped these alumni to help other WELS teachers to grow in ministry.

New VP for Academics Announced
Graduate professor, Dr. Jeff Wiechman, recently accepted the appointment as the next MLC vice president for academics. Dr. Wiechman replaces Dr. David Wendler, who will retire at the end of June 2014.
