Adjuncts are a Blessing
MLC’s 12 adjunct professors are valuable to our graduate students. Through their guidance, MLC graduate students can step outside the boundaries of Martin Luther College and expand the possibilities they see in ministry. While our nine on-campus graduate faculty members provide expertise and ministry experience, our adjuncts supply our students with a new perspective.
Taking on other perspectives in education prevents teachers from getting into ruts. While experience is useful in refining the skills of teaching, the tried and true can turn into a mental box that limits a teacher’s ability to notice problems and project solutions. The result can be that fewer children’s needs are met.
Jesus, the master teacher, demonstrated how important new perspectives are for gospel ministry. He shattered the conventions of his day when he spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well and when he took time to eat with tax collectors. He amazed Peter when he poured out the Holy Spirit on non-Jews. Today, he gives the MLC graduate program adjuncts to help our grad students envision new ways of doing ministry.
