Dr. Abrego Gets Published
MLC adjunct Dr. Michelle Abrego has a new book published by Eye On Education, an independent and innovative provider of books and professional development services for education. Dr. Abrego teaches the MLC master’s course EDU5301 Educational Leadership. Her new book is entitled "Engaging the Families of ELLs: Ideas, Resources, and Activities."
“Eye On Education has just released a new title by Michelle H. Abrego, associate professor at the University of Texas Brownsville, Engaging the Families of ELLs: Ideas, Resources, and Activities. Along with co-authors Renee Rubin and John H. Sutterby, Abrego begins each chapter with realistic scenarios that commonly arise with families of English language learners. Written with the busy educators in mind, this resource provides practical approaches focused on building strong partnerships between school communities and the families of ELLs. The authors offer activities designed to assess current practices, investigate family perceptions and expectations, overcome challenges, and improve communication.
“The strategies in this book help teachers and school leaders engage families at school and at home in innovative and successful ways. As the demographics of America’s schools increase, educators must learn to adapt to the growing needs of their student body.”
