Graduate Faculty - Director

Professor John Meyer is the director of the graduate studies program at MLC. He also teaches Foundations of Educational Research to graduate students as a co-instructor, and Curriculum and Instruction in Elementary and Middle Schools to undergraduates.

His 21 years of diverse ministry experiences in Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod elementary schools help him understand many of the issues, concerns, and needs of teachers and principals in WELS schools. He has taught in multigrade and single-grade classrooms and been the principal in a small, rural school, in mid-sized and large suburban schools, and in a mid-sized urban school.

He is nearing completion of a PhD in Educational Administration at the University of Minnesota. His dissertation research uses a transdisciplinary approach to study the dynamics of personal change within an educational setting. His other research interests include issues of leadership and change within organizations, and instructional motivation and cognition.

Professor Meyer grew up in New Ulm MN, where he attended Lutheran schools from kindergarten through college. He married Heidi (Keibel) Meyer in 1987, and they have five children ranging in age from 22 to 7. He enjoys bicycling, gardening, and motorcycling.
