A thesis proposal contains the following, depending on the type of research. Mixed method research proposals follow the quantitative model. 

 

Quantitative
Quantitative research proposals follow this format:
  1. Introduction
    1. General statement of the problem
    2. Review of the current literature
    3. Specific research questions and/or hypotheses
    4. Significance of the proposed study
  2. Design and Methodology
    1. Subjects
    2. Instrumentation
    3. Procedures
    4. Data analysis and presentation
    5. Limitations of the design
  3. References
  4. Appendices

 

Qualitative
Qualitative research proposals follow this format:
  1. Introduction
    1. General problem statement
    2. Preliminary review of current literature
    3. Foreshadowed problems
    4. Significance of proposed study
  2. Design and Methodology
    1. Site or social network selection
    2. Research role
    3. Purposeful sampling strategies
    4. Data collection strategies
    5. Data management and analysis
    6. Limitations of the design
  3. Reference or Bibliography
  4. Appendices
