Through our membership with SMILE we have free access to the reader’s advisory database, NoveList.

As an academic library, MLC strives to provide our students and faculty with the latest in research resources both in print or online and through audio/visual materials.  Part of this effort, to provide quality service, involves our membership to two Minnesota library organizations.

The MINITEX Library Information Network is a publically supported network of academic, public, state government, and special libraries working together to improve library services for their users in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. There is reciprocity with Wisconsin libraries as well.

The other organization that we have membership is SMILE. Southcentral Minnesota Inter-Library Exchange seeks to support, encourage and facilitate cooperative activities among all types of libraries and information centers in an ongoing effort to improve services to the people of its region. The region that SMILES serves includes the counties of: Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, LeSueur, Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca and Watonwan, it's offices are located in North Mankato. Through our membership with SMILE we have free access to the reader’s advisory database, NoveList.

NoveList

NoveList contains thousands of fiction titles that span reading levels from the earliest of reader’s through adults. Searches are made by author, specific title, plot characteristics and series. NoveList provides author read-alikes, book discussion guides, reading lists, feature articles, award winners, recommended reads and more. Once you’ve done your search you can link directly to the MLC catalog to see if we hold the item or if it is available through the Traverse de Sioux library system.

NoveList is a resource for teachers to introduce students to new, quality fiction books, to encourage independent reading, and help students to think more about why they like a particular story or genre. NoveList provides materials that enhance the reading of young readers and also the adults that work with them.

You will find the link to NoveList on the MLC Library Catalog, top navigation menu. I recommend the NoveList Tour link and also the NoveList Training Powerpoint for Staff, found under RA Training.
