Alumni Planning Teams
Homecoming Weekend Planning Team
This group will meet in March, May, September, October, and/or as needed. Its role will be to help plan, promote, and staff activities for the Fall Festival / Homecoming held on campus each autumn (typically in October).
Objectives: Work with the student senate, alumni relations, athletics, admissions, and public relations offices to determine an agenda of events. Provide staffing at various venues and activities throughout the weekend. Provide a welcome committee to greet alumni, parents, children, and community members visiting the campus.
Commencement Weekend Planning Team
This group will meet in January, March, April, May, and/or as needed to coordinate commencement weekend events such as the annual banquet held prior to the concert.
Ideas: Work with alumni relations and Pioneer College Caterers to organize a pre-concert banquet and/or reception for alumni of MLC, DMLC, and NWC. Honor and welcome our most recent graduates. Honor and welcome returning alumni at the banquet and concert. Potentially host a lunch reception between the graduation and call services on Saturday. Send out an invitation to attend the weekend’s events and a solicitation for support of scholarships or campus projects.
Reunion Weekend Planning Team
This group will meet in November, February, April, June, July, and/or as needed to help plan, promote, and staff activities for the Alumni Reunion Weekend, the first of which will be held, Lord willing, July 25-27, 2008. The Reunion Weekend encourages all alumni to return to campus every five years.
Ideas: Work with alumni relations to coordinate daycare and opportunities for alumni children to get acquainted with one another and have fun on our campus. Help organize “Alumni College” presentations by current and former faculty members. Coordinate tours, games, and contests. Work with Pioneer College Caterers to plan meals and prepare venues for mass gatherings and smaller class reunions. Assist individual class reunion planners in organizing their events. Plan chapel and worship services with an alumni choir.
Orientation Weekend Planning Team
This group will meet in April, June, July, August, and/or as needed to help plan, promote, and staff activities for the students’ return to campus in mid-August.
Ideas: Work with the student senate, alumni relations, and admissions departments to provide an overwhelming welcome to returning students, freshman, and their families. Help move students into the dormitories, provide refreshments and treats for students and their families, or prepare and staff Luther Manor as temporary lodging for families looking for low-cost accommodations for the weekend. This group may also assist with the planning of opening services or other mass events held in conjunction with this weekend (i.e. 2009 Chapel Dedication).
History & Archive Team
This group will meet twice annually and as necessary to set goals and priorities for preserving and presenting historical items and information associated with our campus and colleges.
Ideas: Work with the library administration, alumni relations, and public relations departments to organize, digitize, and make the story of our past readily available to the present and future MLC family. Thoughts are being entertained regarding an alumni center/reception area (potentially in the chapel basement) which could be used to display historical photos, memorabilia, and documents. Other possibilities include the development of an interactive multimedia kiosk, a historical tour of campus, etc. The 125th anniversary of the campus is coming up in 2009.
On-Call Volunteer Team
This group will not meet on a regular basis, but will consist of individuals who are willing to be called upon to serve as needed.
