Self Loan

To apply for a SELF Loan you must log into the Minnesota Office of Higher Education website.  The application process will lead you through the steps of application.  A co-signer is required for this loan.  Loan counseling is also required before the application can be completed.  The web site will provide you with the appropriate instructions. 

Borrowers can access the electronic application site by going to www.selfloan.org.  Click on <Online Application> in the upper left hand corner.

 
The Minnesota Office of Higher Education determines the eligibility of the borrower, and reviews the credit worthiness of the co-signer.  If either the borrower or the co-signer are ineligible, they will be notified by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.   If the co-signer does not qualify, contact the MLC Financial Aid Office to discuss other loan options. 

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education notifies the MLC Financial Aid Office that your loan is ready to be certified, and your student account will be credited for your SELF loan as anticipated financial aid.  Disbursement of the loan funds will occur according to the schedule of disbursment each semester.
