Leaving MLC

last modified 2006-05-19 02:35 PM

This document discusses things continuing and non-returning students should consider when leaving campus temporarily or permanently.

The Novell Client is used to access your network storage space and network applications. Upon leaving MLC, you may wish to remove the Novell Client from your computer. This is true especially for graduates and non-returning students. It is not necessary for continuing students to remove the Client over breaks.

Continuing Students:

  • It is not necessary to remove the Client over breaks. It will operate silently in the background while you are away from MLC. Windows XP users will simply check the "Workstation Only" checkbox and login normally.
  • To avoid errors about the I: drive being unaccessible, you may wish to point your "My Documents" folder to a folder on your computer during the summer.
    • Go to the Start menu.
    • Right-click on My Documents.
    • Select Properties.
    • Click the Restore Default button.
    • Click OK, then answer No when it asks if you wish to move files.

Graduating/Non-Returning Students:

  • Although the Novell Client should not disrupt use of your computer, you will likely want to remove the Client when you leave campus for the last time.
  • It is not necessary to remove the Client before you leave campus.
  • To remove the client,
    • Go to the Start menu.
    • Select Control Panel.
    • If you are in "Category View" (blue background):
      • Click Network and Internet Connections.
      • Click Network Connections.
    • OR, if you are in "Classic View" (white background):
      • Double-Click Network Connections.
    • Double-Click Local Area Connection (may be named differently).
    • Click Properties.
    • In the scrollbox under "This connection using the following items", click "Novell Client for Windows", then click Uninstall.
    • You may now close all open windows or dialogs. If you are prompted to restart, do so.
  • After removing the client, you will want to reset the location of your "My Documents" folder. Follow the instructions about I: drive errors above.
