WELS Development Training

last modified 2012-11-28 09:54 AM

Each January the WELS Ministry of Christian Giving offers a training session as a way of giving veteran counselors a refresher course as well as training any new counselors. Kurt Lueneburg, Gerry Heckmann, and John Graf are the trainers. Read more about this training, and sign up by December 18.

In our effort to promote a better understanding of working with WELS donors and to foster a continuing spirit of cooperation, we offer advancement personnel at any WELS or ELS school or institution the opportunity to participate in these sessions. We are now pleased to extend this invitation to you also for an introduction or a refresher in the culture and ways of development in WELS.

Attendance at this event will not only provide you with in-depth material which you will find helpful in your work but also an opportunity to network with other WELS people working in this field.

Because we want this to be personable and highly effective training, we limit enrollment to ten people. If more than ten people sign up, we will enroll you in the order received should there be more openings.

Here is a preliminary agenda for this session being held Jan. 9-11, 2013 (Wednesday through Friday):

Wed., Jan. 9th
8-8:30: WELS Chapel Service
8:30 – 12 noon: Planned Giving Presentation by a guest speaker and Jim Holm of WELS Foundation
1-5 pm: Director’s Introduction; Getting Started; and History & Administrative Structure of Ministry of Christian Giving

Thurs., Jan. 10th
8-5 pm: Professional Relationships; Working with Your Donors; and Planned Giving

Fri., Jan. 11th
8-12: Spiritual, Personal & Practical Matters; Brainstorm
1-3:30 pm: Introduction to Grant Writing

If you are interested and for some reason these dates do not work for you, please contact Karen Martinez at 414-256-3209.

You will receive a complimentary copy of the latest edition of our training syllabus. There is no cost for the training. You will be responsible for your travel, meals and lodging expenses with the exception of lunches. We will help you arrange lodging at the Holiday Inn Express near the synod administration building if you wish.

If you feel you would benefit from brushing up on meeting and working with donors and the details of planned giving, please consider joining us for good training and good fellowship.

Your response is needed by December 18, 2012. Please send your reply by e-mail to Karen Martinez who has sent this message on behalf of the WELS Ministry of Christian Giving.

Please do not hesitate to call or contact John Graf or Karen Martinez if you have any questions.
