Baseball Loses Conference Opener
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC baseball team lost its first game of the conference season 22-5 at Bethany Tuesday afternoon.
Bethany scored in each of the first six innings, taking a 4-0 lead after three and adding to it with four runs in the fourth and sixth innings, and finally busting it wide open with nine runs in the eighth.
Joe Janke got the start on the mound for MLC and picked up the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings of work to fall to 0-3 on the season. Joe Blum and Tyler Dorn pitched the rest of the way for the Knights.
The Knights were outhit 21-9 for the game, with Joe Schmudlach and Aaron Stokke leading the MLC hitters with two hits apiece. Stokke drove home three of the Knights' five runs, and scored another.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-8 on the season and 0-1 in the UMAC, while Bethany improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, April 8, when they travel to Northland for game one of a scheduled three-game weekend series. Friday's game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
