Baseball Splits Double Header at Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. - The MLC baseball team picked up its first win of the season Friday at Northland in a double header split. MLC won game one 6-2, while Northland took game two 10-6.

MLC got a strong pitching performance from Joe Janke and some timely hitting in a 6-2 win over NC in game one.

Janke went all seven innings, allowing one earned run while striking out six as he improved to 1-3 on the season.

At the plate, Greg and Galen Holzhueter each had two hits for the Knights. For the game, MLC finished with seven hits.


MLC outhit Northland 13-10 in game two, but struggled to bring runners home and to catch the ball in a 10-6 loss in game two.

The Knights stranded 16 runners in the game, and also finished with five errors on defense.

Jacob Ziel picked up the loss on the mound for the Knights, dropping his record to 0-2 on the season.

Greg Holzhueter and Joel Hering each had three hits in the game, while Aaron Stokke and Janke had two hits apiece.

MLC moved to 1-9 on the season and 1-2 in the UMAC after the split, while NC is now 3-10 overall and 1-4 in league play.

The two teams will finish the two-game series with a nine-inning game tomorrow (Saturday, April 9) at Northland starting at 12 p.m.
