The Knights got off to a strong start with a 4-1 game one win over the Rams.

Starting pitcher Jonathan Kock improved to 2-3 on the season after throwing a complete game three-hitter. Kock struck out seven without walking a batter, and only one of his three hits allowed reached the outfield. The Rams' only run came on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

MLC finished with only five hits in the game, but was aggressive on the base paths to the tune of six stolen bases to help manufacture runs. Jason Lindemann had two runs batted in, with the other two RBIs coming from Galen Holzhueter and Andrew Nemmers. Nemmers also scored a pair of runs for the Knights.

[North Central 5, MLC 4 (8 innings)]

North Central came back in game two to defeat the Knights 5-4.

The two teams traded a pair of runs in the second inning, and then again several innings later as the Rams countered two MLC runs with a pair in the top of the fifth off MLC starter Wyatt Weimer to tie the game at 4-4.

The two teams went to extra innings, and the Rams scored the winning run off reliever James Hemmelman to win the game.

Hemmelman pitched the final 3.0 innings in the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season after striking out three and allowing five hits and two walks.

Hemmelman and Holzhueter each had two hits for MLC, while Joe Schmudlach, Thomas Welch and Hemmelman each had a run batted in.

[MLC 7, North Central 4]

The Knights built an early four-run lead and held on down the stretch for the 7-4 win.

Travis Kretsch earned his first win of the season on the mound for MLC, going five innings and striking out one while allowing four runs (all earned). Michael Schlottman came in relief to earn his first save of the season.

MLC finished the game with nine hits, led by three from Jake Ziel. Holzhueter, Olson and Nemmers each had two hits for MLC.

The Knights now hold a record of 9-10 overall and 6-5 in the UMAC, while North Central leaves the triple header with 1-20 on the season and 1-13 in league play.

MLC will return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, April 23) when it hosts Crown College in a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at Mueller Park.
