Janke Named All-UMAC
ST. PAUL - Joe Janke (Big Bend, Wis./WISCO) was the lone MLC baseball player named First Team All-UMAC by the conference coaches Tuesday afternoon. Greg Holzhueter (Mankato, Minn./MVL) and Joshua Schultz (Antioch, Ill./LPS) were both named Honorable Mention.
Janke led the Knights with a .352 batting average and .408 on base percentage, and 45 hits on the season, and tied for the team lead with nine doubles. For his play on this season, Janke was named team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year for the Knights.
"Joe was a very versatile player for us," coach Randy Cox said. "He played third base, pitcher and designated hitter for us this year, and we're very happy that his hard work and determination helped him to receive this kind of recognition."
Holzhueter started all but two games for the Knights at shortstop, hitting lead-off in most of those games. He hit .270 for the season, and also led the team with 29 runs scored.
Schultz started all 41 games in centerfield for MLC, hitting .285 with a team-high 24 RBI and ten steals on the season. He also hit one home run and had 37 hits on the season.
