Big Run Pushes Johnnies Past Knights
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team lost 79-58 Wednesday night to St. John's in the team's home opener.
The Knights kept things close for the first 12 minutes, trailing by just two points at 19-17 with 8:04 remaining, but were held without a point for the next 7:43, allowing the Johnnies to go on a 24-0 run during that time to take a 44-19 lead into halftime.
MLC battled with the Johnnies in the second half, outscoring them 39-35 for the half, but the deficit was too big for the Knights to ever get close enough to mount a final challenge.
After shooting just 30.8 percent in the first half (the Johnnies shot 55.2 percent), the Knights shot 46.4 percent in the second half, and went 6-11 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes. St. John's shot 51.8 percent from the field for the game.
Nathan Bauer and Justin Eternick led the team with 11 points apiece, while Kaleb Buch finished with ten points. Justin Danell had a team-high six rebounds.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-4 on the season, while St. John's improved to 4-1.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, December 4, when it travels to Mayville State. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the MLC women playing at 3 p.m.
