Crown Storms Past Knights in Second Half
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team was unable to overcome a second half offensive onslaught from Crown in an 89-72 loss Saturday.
The Knights held a 34-32 halftime lead, but were outscored 57-38 in the second half. Crown shot 65.5 percent from the field after the break, and also took advantage of its trips to the charity stripe, making 15 of 18 attempts.
MLC took an early lead by forcing Crown miscues throughout the first half. The Storm turned the ball over 16 times in the first half, while Galen Holzhueter led teh MLC offense with 16 points before the break.
The score was tied 54-54 with 10:34, but Crown took control over the next five minutes, outscoring the Knights 14-4 to take a ten-point lead it would hold the rest of the way.
Holzhueter finished as the high scorer for MLC with 24 points, while Kaleb Buch and Justin Eternick added 12 and ten points, respectively. Luke Rothe led MLC with eight assists to go with his nine points.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 2-16 on the season and 1-5 in the UMAC, while Crown improved to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, January 29, when they host Bethany for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
