Holzhueter Scores 27 in Loss to Waldorf
LA CROSSE, Wis. - The MLC men's basketball team lost the Consolation Game at the Viterbo University Invitational Tournament to Waldorf College by the score of 92-79 Saturday.
The Knights led for much of the first half, but Waldorf made a run in the final minutes of the half to take a two-point lead at 37-35 at the break.
MLC tied the game at 52-52 after a three-pointer from Craig Wilke with 12:23 to play, but the Warriors went on a 26-9 run over the next seven minutes to take control of the game.
Galen Holzhueter led MLC with 27 points on 11-19 shooting from the floor. He also led the Knights with eight rebounds. Luke Rothe and Michael Paulsen joined him in double figures with 14 and ten points, respectively.
MLC shot 46 percent from the field for the game, and also shot well from beyond the arc as it made nine of 23 attempts. The Knights were unable to slow the Waldorf offensive attack, however, as the Warriors shot 58.7 percent from the field.
Both teams struggled with turnovers in the first half, with MLC committing 14 turnovers compared to 13 for Waldorf, but cleaned things up in the second half. MLC finished with 17 turnovers, while Waldorf ended the game with 15.
MLC dropped to 0-2 to start the season with the loss, while Waldorf improved to 1-5 with the win.
The Knights will return to action at Viterbo on November 28. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game.
