Knights Topple Northland 66-64
ASHLAND, Wis. - The MLC men's basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season with 66-64 win at Northland Saturday.
Nathan Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside) came up big for the Knights down the stretch, scoring six points in the game's final two minutes, including the game-winning jump shot with under five seconds remaining to give the Knights the final two-point margin.
Bauer finished with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists, and was helped on the offensive end by backcourt mate Greg Holzhueter (Mankato, Minn./MVL), who scored 23 points.
MLC fell behind 10-1 early, but continued to fight back until a Holzhueter three-pointer gave them a one-point lead at 32-31 heading into the half.
The two teams traded the lead eight different times in the second half, with neither team able to build a lead larger than six-points.
The Knights held a slim lead for much of the final ten minutes of play, but still found themselves in a tie game in the final minutes after a Ryan Cannata jump-shot in the final minutes put the score at 64-64 before Bauer's shot in the final seconds gave MLC the win.
With the win, MLC improved to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play, while Northland dropped to 4-13 and 2-5 in the league.
The Knights will return to action on Thursday, January 28, when they travel to North Central for a 7:30 p.m. game.
