Knights Unable to Snap Skid in Loss to Bethel
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team played tough, but was unable to slow down Bethel in a 92-64 loss Saturday afternoon.
Bethel finished the game shooting 55.4 percent from the floor, and had four players in double figures. Greg Meyer led the Royals with 12 first half points, while Christian Skinner and Taylor Hall combined for 32 points on 12-16 shooting in the second half on their way to 21 points apiece.
The Knights trailed by only four points at 36-32 with 2:09 to play in the opening half, but an 8-0 Royal run to end the half put MLC at a 12-point deficit at 44-32 at the break.
MLC hung around to start the half, trailing by 12 points at 61-49 with 12:18 to play in the game, but Bethel built up the lead with a 25-9 run over the next nine minutes of play to put the Knights away.
Nathan Bauer finished the game as MLC's leading scorer with 16 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Jake Unke joined him in double figures with 13 points, while Galen Holzhueter finished with a solid all-around performance with eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-8 on the season, while Bethel improved to 3-6 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, January 11, when it travels to Bethany for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
