Men Pick up Road Win at Northland
ASHLAND, Wis. – The MLC men’s basketball team won on the road for the first time this season at Northland by the score of 64-54 Saturday.
Defense was the key for MLC in the game, as the Knights held Northland to 35.1 percent shooting for the game and forced 14 Lumberjack turnovers.
MLC’s offense was efficient, shooting 47.3 percent from the field, including a 51.9 percent shooting performance in the second half.
The Knights fell behind by as many as ten early in the game, but fought back to get within two at the end of the first half at 30-28.
After a Justin Danell jumper tied the score early in the second half at 32-32, the Knights took the lead and control of the game with a 9-3 run, giving them a six-point lead they would never relinquish the rest of the way.
Northland made it interesting down the stretch, cutting what had been an 11-point MLC lead to three with under two minutes to play, but the Knights closed the game on a 7-0 run to secure the win.
Galen Holzhueter and Danell each had 16 points for the Knights, with Holzhueter also grabbing 12 rebounds. Josh Danell made all five of his shots on the way to 11 points, while Josh Lindner provided a spark off the bench with eight points in 21 minutes of action.
With the win, MLC improved to 2-20 on the season and 2-10 in the UMAC, while Northland dropped to 4-18 overall and 3-9 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Friday, February 17, when it travels to Crown for a 7:30 p.m. game.
