MLC Picks up First Win over Presentation
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team held tough down the stretch to pick up its first win of the season over Presentation Friday by a score of 83-69.
The Knights finished a competitive first half with a bang on a Jake Unke three-point shot in the final seconds to put them ahead 38-36 heading into the break. Unke came up big for the Knights in the half, scoring a team high ten points off the bench.
In the second half, MLC started to build on its lead, taking care of the ball and getting good looks at the rim. Nathan Bauer scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, going 5-7 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line.
MLC showed poise under pressure in the final minutes. As the Saints scrambled on offense and defense, the Knights went 14-15 from the charity stripe in the second half to continue to increase the lead.
MLC finished with four players in double figures, led by Bauer's 21. Galen Holzhueter finished with 16 points and added a team-high 16 rebounds, while Greg Holzhueter and Unke added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
With the win, MLC improved to 1-11 overall, and 1-3 in the UMAC on the season, while Presentation dropped to 4-11 and 1-3.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (January 22), when they host Minn.-Morris for a 5 p.m. contest.
