Five Receive All-UMAC Honors in Football
ST. PAUL – MLC football players Galen Holzhueter, Conrad Dewey, Tyler Dorn and Luke Rothe were named First Team All-UMAC, while Derek Loewen was named Second Team All-UMAC by the conference Thursday.
Holzhueter, who won Defensive Player of the Week in the conference after the Knights’ final game of the season, had 76 tackles from his safety position. He also led the Knights in interceptions (three), pass break-ups (nine) and fumble recoveries (two), and finished the season with one forced fumble and 2.0 tackles for loss.
Dewey received the honor at linebacker after finishing second on the Knights with 94 tackles, including a league-best 76 tackles during conference play. Dewey also totaled 4.5 tackles for loss, four pass break-ups, one forced fumble and one interception as he helped the Knights finish the season third in the conference in total defense, scoring defense, rush defense and pass defense.
Dorn finished the season as the conference’s leading punter, averaging 37.5 yards per punt. He also had eight punts that finished inside the opponents’ 20-yard-line, compared to one touchback.
Rothe was the top kickoff returner in the UMAC, averaging 24.7 yards per return and scoring one touchdown on the season. Rothe also played quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive back this season for the Knights.
Loewen had a big season from his defensive end position, leading the Knights in tackles (95), tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (2.5). He also finished with three pass break-ups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.
Justin Eternick was MLC’s recipient of the Individual Sportsmanship Award, which goes to one player on each team in the conference.
