Football Loses at Greenville
GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Martin Luther College football team was unable to slow down a powerful Greenville College team in a 56-6 loss Saturday.
The Panthers took control of the game from the start, scoring on a pair of first quarter drives to take a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
After a third Panther touchdown, the Knights scored their only touchdown of the game with just over six minutes to play in the second quarter, as Luke Rothe found Micah Plocher for a 49-yard score to cut the deficit to 21-6.
Greenville would prove too much, however, as the Panthers scored twice more to end the first half, and then more times in the second half to get the final margin.
Rothe finished with 219 yards and one touchdown passing. Plocher was his leading target, catching four passes for 78 yards and the touchdown, while Matt Olson led the team with 50 yards rushing on 17 carries.
MLC dropped to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in the UMAC in defeat, while Greenville improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 5, when they host Iowa Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
