Gurgel Scores Three in MLC Win
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's soccer team picked up its second conference win of the season by the score of 6-2 over Northland Friday.
The Knights took command of the game from the start, as Ryan Lemke kicked off the scoring in the fourth minute off a pass from Steve White.
The Knights would score three more times in the half, with White scoring on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute for his first goal of the season, followed by Nathan Gurgel scoring twice to give MLC a 4-0 lead.
Gurgel would continue the scoring in the second half, completing the hat trick with his third goal of the game in the 52nd minute, while Tyler Prekop scored his first career goal in the 62nd minute to finish the scoring for the Knights.
White finished the game with one goal and three assists, while also added an assist to go with his goal.
MLC outshot Northland 28-7 in the game, including a 17-4 edge in shots on goal. Taylor Traeder had two saves in net for the Knights to pick up the win.
With the win, MLC improved to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the UMAC, while Northland dropped to 1-14 on the season and 0-9 in league play.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 22) when it hosts St. Scholastica in the home finale starting around 2 p.m.
