Knights Break Out with Five Goals in Win
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's soccer team kicked off homecoming weekend right with a 5-0 win over North Central Friday.
Ben Nommensen got the Knights on the board in the 12th minute on a goal off a rebound of a Ryan Lemke shot, giving him four consecutive games with a goal and putting the Knights ahead 1-0.
Kaleb Buch gave the Knights more momentum heading into the half with a goal from Nommensen in the 44th minute, and then he and Nathan Gurgel put the game with second half goals. Gurgel scored twice in the second half to give him four goals on the season, while Buch added his seventh on the season to cement the win.
MLC outshot the Rams 33-9 in the game, including a 22-3 edge in shots on goal. Buch finished with ten shots total, seven of which were on net, while Ryan Lemke had five shots.
Ben Zietlow and Taylor Traeder combined for the shutout in goal, saving three shots between them.
With the win, MLC improved to 2-7 on the season, while North Central dropped to 2-6-1.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 1), when they host UM-Morris in the Homecoming game. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
