Lemke Scores Two in Win over Northland
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team moved above .500 in league play with a 2-0 win over Northland College Friday morning at Knight Field.
The game was moved up three hours to an 11 a.m. start in an attempt to avoid inclement weather, and the Knights played like the team most ready to play, outshooting the Lumberjacks 14-3 in the first half.
Ryan Lemke put the Knights on the board in the 21st minute, scoring off an assist from Jacob Shepherd to give MLC the 1-0 lead.
Lemke would add the insurance goal in the 67th minute off an assist from Aaron Markgraf, giving goalkeeper Eric Hahn and the MLC defense all the cushion it would need.
Hahn stopped all six shots he faced in net for MLC to earn his second shutout of the season.
The two goals by Lemke gave him four on the season, all of which have come in conference play.
With the win, MLC improved to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in league play, while Northland dropped to 3-9 on the season and 1-4 in UMAC action.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 5) when it hosts St. Scholastica in a game scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
