Men's Soccer Loses Late to Bethany Lutheran
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's soccer team was unable to hold on to an early lead in a 3-2 loss to Bethany Lutheran Saturday at Knight Field.
The Knights jumped in front early on a pair of goals by Kaleb Buch, his first two of the season. Buch's first tally came in the 28th minute off a pass from Ryan Lemke, and then added his second unassisted in the 35th minute.
The Vikings came back to score a big goal at the end of the first half when Joseph Perez scored off a feed from Juan Garcia to cut the MLC lead to 2-1 heading into the half.
Bethany scored the equalizer in the 64th minute when Perez scored his second of the game to tie it up at 2-2, and then scored the game-winner in the 81st minute on a goal by Julio Garcia. The Vikings then hung on as MLC had several strong chances down the stretch to hold off the Knights by the final score of 3-2.
Buch finished with eight of MLC's 17 shots for the game, and also had three of the team's seven shots on goal. MLC goalkeeper Eric Hahn stopped eight of the 11 shots he faced in net.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 2-9 on the season and 1-6 in league play, while BLC improved to 5-8 overall and 4-3 in the UMAC.
MLC will return to action on Thursday, October 11, when it hosts Minnesota Morris for a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
