Roekle Scores Two in MLC Win
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season over Finlandia by the score of 2-0 with the help of a pair of goals by Stephen Roekle.
After a scoreless first half in which the Knights outshot the Lions 8-2, Roekle put the Knights on the board when he finished a crossing pass from Ryan Lemke in the 60th minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
The Knights were put in a tough spot in the 65th minute when Ross Chartrand was assessed his second yellow card of the game, leaving the Knights one player down for the rest of the game, but the team rallied and continued to control play in the windy conditions.
In the 74th minute, Roekle scored the insurance goal off an assist by Colton Berger, giving the defense and goalkeeper Eric Hahn all the cushion they would need.
Hahn wasn't tested throughout the game, as the MLC defense held the Lions without a shot, but he was active around his net and kept several threats from developing as he picked up his first career win in goal.
With the win, MLC improved to 1-2 on the season, while Finlandia dropped to 1-1.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, September 11, when they host Buena Vista for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
