Men's Tennis Picked Fourth in Preseason Poll
ST. PAUL - The MLC men's tennis team was picked to finish fourth in the UMAC in the preseason poll released by the conference Wednesday.
The Knights will look to build on last season’s third place finish in the UMAC with the help of a pair of returning All-UMAC performers at the top of the line-up.
Seniors Scott Henrich and Paul Koester have been mainstays for the Knights at the top of the line-up for the last three seasons, and each were named All-UMAC a season ago. Henrich finished 2012 with a record of 7-7 in singles and doubles from the top spot in the line-up and has been named all-conference three times in his career, while Koester went 6-7 in singles from the number two spot and 7-6 in doubles while teaming with Henrich in the top spot. Russ Scoggins also returns for MLC after finishing 6-7 in singles and 7-7 in doubles in the middle of the line-up a season ago, and the team also welcomes back Nathaniel Jensen and Tom Gorzalski as experienced players who provide depth.
The team has several talented newcomers to the line-up this season, led by first-year players Kris Kuschel, Micah Koelpin and Jordan Bence.
