Men Swept by Northwestern in Regular Season Finale
NEW ULM, Minn. – The MLC men’s tennis team was unable to score a point in a 9-0 loss to Northwestern on a blustery day in New Ulm Tuesday.
The Knights lost all three doubles matches by the scores of 8-5, 8-2 and 8-1.
In singles, two players took their matches to a third set, but none of them were able to come up with a win to give the Knights a point. Russell Scoggins took his number four singles match to a third set before losing the tie-breaker 11-9, while David Marquardt lost a three-set match in number five singles by the score of 1-6, 6-4 and 10-2.
With the loss, MLC finishes the regular season at 6-8 overall and 6-4 in league play, good for third place in the UMAC and a spot in the conference tournament this weekend. Northwestern improved to 12-9 on the season and 8-2 in conference with the win.
MLC will return to action on Friday, May 4, when they play in the UMAC Tennis Championships held at Baseline Tennis Center.
