Babinec, Free Receive All-Conference Honors
ST. PAUL, Minn. – MLC women’s basketball players Erica Babinec and Sarah Free received all-conference recognition for their play this season, with Babinec being named First Team All-UMAC and to the UMAC All-Defense team, while Free was named Honorable Mention All-UMAC.
Babinec was named first team all-conference for the third consecutive season after averaging 21.5 points per game in conference play, the second highest in the conference. Babinec also finished in the top ten in the conference in rebounds per game (7.1), field goal percentage (.516), assists per game (3.9), steals per game (2.3), three-point field goal percentage (.450) and minutes played per game (33.4). This season, Babinec scored the 1,000th point of her career, making her the second women’s basketball player at MLC to reach the milestone.
Free was named honorable mention all-conference for the second consecutive season. This season, Free averaged 14.1 points per game in conference play, good for seventh in the UMAC. Free made the biggest impact with her shooting from beyond the three-point arc, finishing fourth in the conference in three-pointers made (32) and tenth in three-point field goal percentage (.368) during the conference season. Free also set the MLC record for career three-pointers made this season.
