Babinec Named First Team All-UMAC
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Erica Babinec was named First Team All-UMAC for her play on the women’s basketball team this season. Teammates Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) and Katherine Kogler (Fallbrook, Calif./CLHS) were named Honorable Mention All-UMAC. Babinec was also selected to the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
Babinec proved to be one of the most versatile players in the conference this season, and during the conference season led the Knights in points per game (17.3), rebounds per game (6.7), assists per game (2.8), steals per game (3.6) and free throw percentage (.823).
Babinec also stacked up well in those statistics in the conference, leading the conference in free throws made (79) and finishing second in scoring and steals, third in assists, fifth in free throw percentage and sixth in rebounding. This all-conference selection is the second in a row for the sophomore, who was the only freshman named first team last year in the UMAC.
Free provided a three-point threat on the outside all season long for the Knights, and finished the conference season with an average of 10.9 points per game. A very efficient shooter, Free finished second in the UMAC in both three pointers made (31) and three-point percentage (.443) during conference play.
Kogler received her second honorable mention selection this season, after first receiving the honor in the 2007-08 season. This year, Kogler finished second on the team during conference play with averages of 11.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She also finished sixth in the conference in steals per game (2.0).
