Big First Half Leads Knights over Saints
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women’s basketball team held Presentation to just 15 points in the first half on the way to a 68-64 win over the Saints.
The Knights’ defense suffocated the Saints, holding them to just 7-29 shooting from the field, including 0-13 from beyond the three-point arc. For the game, PC finished with a shooting percentage of 33.8 percent from the field, and 27.6 from distance after heating up near the end of the game.
MLC built a lead as high as 18 points in the first half at 24-6 with under six minutes before finishing the half with a 32-17 lead.
The Knights held onto the lead for much of the second half, keeping it in double figures until the four minute mark of the second half, when the Saints made a late run with a number of three-pointers, cutting the lead to two points in the final minutes before Sarah Free iced the game with two late free throws to push the final margin to four points.
Amanda Burk led MLC with 19 points and seven rebounds. Free and Erica Babinec joined her in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Babinec also added five assists, while both had five rebounds.
With the win, MLC improved to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in the UMAC, while PC fell to 7-8 on the season and 2-2 in the conference.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 22), when they host Minn.-Morris for a game starting at 3 p.m.
