Falcons Top Knights 99-78
RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The MLC women’s basketball team was unable to handle UW-River Falls on the glass in a 99-78 loss Monday night.
The Falcons outrebounded MLC 49-24 for the game, including a 23-3 rebound margin on the offensive glass. The offensive rebounds helped River Falls shoot 47.3 percent for the game, compared to MLC’s 50 percent, and also got the Falcons to the free throw line 35 times, where they went 25-35.
River Falls took control of the game in the first half after MLC kept things tight at the beginning, breaking open a 15-15 game with 13:19 to play in the half with a 22-5 run to take a 17-point lead with 6:57 remaining before the half. The Falcons continued to push the lead the rest of the half, with the MLC deficit reaching as high as 26 points at 57-31 before the half ended with the Falcons leading 59-36.
The second half proved more of the same for both teams, as River Falls pushed the lead as high as 30 points, and never allowed MLC to cut the deficit below 20 on the way to the 21- point win.
Sarah Free led four MLC players in double figures with a season-high 20 points on 6-9 shooting from the field, while Erica Babinec added 18 points. Emily Boldt and Amanda Burk added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
MLC was efficient shooting on the nights, going 26-52 from the floor, 6-11 from beyond the three-point line, and 20-26 from the free throw line, but committed 24 turnovers in the game, and weren’t able to get enough stops on the other end.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Falcons improved to 4-1.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, December 4, when they travel to Mayville State. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m., and will be followed by the men’s game.
