Knights Lose in Overtime to Dubuque
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team lost a back-and-forth battle with Dubuque in overtime by the score of 73-69 Monday night.
MLC had a one-point halftime lead at 27-26, but the game opened up in the second half, with nine ties and nine lead changes in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
After the Spartans scored with just over a minute to take the lead, and pushed that lead to two points with 36 seconds to play in regulation, Hannah Hackbarth sent the game into overtime with a jump shot with 14 seconds to play to tie the game at 61-61.
The Knights held a four-point lead in the overtime period with 2:36 to play, but Amanda Burk committed her fifth foul of the game on a basket by the Spartans, helping them cut the lead to one point and sending the Knights' primary offense on the night to the sidelines.
The Knights held Dubuque to 2-8 shooting in the overtime period, but the Spartans went 8-11 from the free throw line to take the lead and eventually put the game away.
Burk led the MLC offense with a career-high 28 points on 9-16 shooting from the field and 10-10 shooting from the free throw line, and also added a team-high nine rebounds.
Alex Anthon joined her in double figures with 12 points, while Hackbarth led the bench scorers with 11.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 5-4, while Dubuque improved to 4-4 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Friday, December 16, when it hosts Wartburg for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
