Knights Overcome Late Deficit in OT Win
MAYVILLE, N.D. - The MLC women's basketball team overcame an eight-point deficit with two minutes to play at Mayville State to beat the Comets 94-87 Friday night in overtime.
The Knights trailed for much of the game, but were able to come back from eight points down late with the help of a three-pointers from Erica Babinec and Hannah Hackbarth, and then forced overtime with a Hackbarth free throw to tie the game at 80-80.
In overtime, the Knights dominated, outscoring the Comets 14-7 on the way to winning their third consecutive game.
Alex Anthon had a big night for MLC, scoring a career-high 27 points with the help of a 13-15 night from the free throw line. He career high in points marked the fourth consecutive game the freshman has set a new career high in scoring.
Erica Babinec added 19 points and ten rebounds, giving her three double-doubles on the season, while Brittney Gossen scored 15.
MLC also received strong contributions from its post players, as Amanda Burk scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Emily Boldt was a force on both ends of the court with ten points, five rebounds and two blocks.
With the win, MLC improved to 4-2 on the season, while Mayville State dropped to 8-3.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, December 6, when they host UW-River Falls for a game scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
