Knights Roll Past Storm
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women took a huge lead early and never looked back in a 73-32 win over Crown Saturday afternoon.
The Knights jumped out to a 36-9 lead in the first half, before heading into halftime with a 19-point lead at 39-20.
The second half brought more of the same, with the Knights turning up the defense effort and allowing just two field goals by the Storm in the final 20 minutes, pushing the lead as high as 43 points before cruising to the final margin.
MLC's defense harassed Crown all day, as the Storm turned the ball over 41 times and shot just 21.9 percent (7-32) from the floor. Half of Crown's points came from the foul line, where they went 16-22.
The Knights were led by Erica Babinec (Onalaska, Wis./Luther), who scored 18 points in just 15 minutes of action, and also added six steals and four assists.
Freshman Sarah Pederson (Watertown, S.D./GPLHS) came off the bench with a strong ten points and nine rebounds, while everyone else contributed to the team. 12 of the 13 players that played on the day scored for the Knights.
With the win, MLC improved to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in UMAC action, while Crown dropped to 0-9 for the year and 0-4 in conference play.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 12, when it hosts Bethany for a 5:30 p.m. game.[BOX SCORE]
