Knights Roll to Win at Crown
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 84-51 win at Crown Saturday.
The Knights started the game on a 12-2 run in the first half on the way to building a first half lead that reached 23 points at halftime.
In the second half, MLC continued to dominate play, as the Storm were never able to get the deficit under 20 points on the way to the 33-point MLC win.
MLC showed a suffocating defense throughout the game, holding Crown to just 27.7 percent shooting, and forcing 19 turnovers. The Knights shot 34.2 percent from the field, but went 11-24 (45.8 percent) from beyond the three-point arc, led by Sarah Free, who went 5-7 from distance.
The Knights also dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Storm 63-38, including a 28-11 edge on the offensive glass.
Free led the Knights in scoring with 29 points in the game, and finished 9-14 from the field. Erica Babinec added 13 points.
Amanda Selle led the Knights' rebounding efforts with eight, while Kari Fuerstenberg and Johannah Crass each grabbed seven off the bench. For the game, the MLC bench scored 30 points, led by Kadie Drake's nine points.
With the win, MLC improved to 5-11 overall, and 3-4 in the UMAC, while Crown dropped to 0-17 on the season and 0-7 in league action.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, February 1, when they host Bethany for a double header of men's and women's action starting at 5:30 p.m.
