Knights Run Away at Crown
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team took a commanding early lead and never looked back, smothering Crown in a 58-30 win Friday night.
For the second consecutive game, the Knights played stifling defense in the first half, holding the Storm to just 3-32 shooting from the floor and forcing 12 turnovers on the way to a 23-9 halftime lead.
The Knights turned up the offense in the second half, shooting 42.1 percent from the field after struggling to a 21.1 percent clip in the first half.
After the Storm scored the first three points of the second half, the Knights rattled off 17 unanswered points to push their lead to 40-12, putting Crown away for good.
Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) led the Knights with 15 points, all of which came on five three-point baskets. Katherine Kogler (Fallbrook, Calif./CLHS) finished with an efficient 13 points on just seven shots and also added seven rebounds, while Erica Babinec (Onalaska, Wis./Luther) finished with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
With the win, MLC improved to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in league play, while Crown dropped to 0-14 on the season and 0-9 in the UMAC.
MLC will return to action on Friday, February 12, when it hosts UM-Morris for a 5:30 tip.[BOX SCORE]
