MLC Women Finish BLC Season Sweep
MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team finished its season sweep of Bethany Lutheran College Tuesday night with an 82-58 win.
The Knights were efficient offensively (44.1 percent shooting and 12 turnovers) while they frustrated the Vikings into 21 turnovers and 32.8 percent from the field. MLC also shot very well from beyond the three-point arc, making eight of 13 attempts (61.5 percent).
BLC led 11-9 early, but the Knights took control of the game with a 22-3 run over a nearly seven-minute stretch to build a big lead.
MLC led 45-24 at the half, and then continued to turn up the heat as it built the lead as high as 36 points with seven minutes to play on the way to the win.
Mariah Schoof had a big day for the Knights off the bench, scoring a career-high 25 points on 9-14 shooting overall (5-7 from beyond the arc) in 21 minutes of action. Schoof led a bench effort that outscored the Vikings' bench 42-11.
Alex Anthon helped the Knights to their strong start, scoring 12 of her 15 total points in the first half thanks to 5-5 shooting from the field (she finished 6-8). Anthon also had five of the team's 16 steals in the game, and tied Erin Schmeling for the team lead with four assists.
MLC improved to 9-9 overall and 6-2 in the UMAC with the win, while BLC fell to 6-13 this season and 3-5 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, February 7, when they host Northland College. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
