DECORAH, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team saw its two-game win streak snapped in an 81-63 loss at Luther College Tuesday.
The two teams traded baskets for much of the first half, but the Norse would finish the half with eight unanswered points to take a 44-36 lead into the break.
That run would continue into the second half, as Luther quickly built its lead into double figures, reaching its highest point at 18 midway through the half. The Knights battled back, cutting the deficit to ten points with just over six minutes to play, but were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led MLC with 14 points and ten rebounds. She finished the game 5-10 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line. Alex Anthon, Hannah Hackbarth and Erin Schmeling each finished with nine points for the Knights.
The Knights finished the game shooting 34.4 percent, but were held to just 20 percent (5-25) shooting in the second half. Luther shot 41.9 percent from the field, but took advantage of 23 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points and a 42-18 edge in points in the paint.
MLC dropped to 3-5 on the season in defeat, while Luther improved to 7-1 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, December 14, when they travel to Dakota State for a game scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
