MLC Women Lose Non-Conference Clash with UW-River Falls
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped in an 80-71 loss to UW-River Falls Tuesday.
The Knights made more field goals (27 to 26) and more three-point field goals (six to four), but were outscored at the free throw line 24-11 in the contest, and missed 11 of their 22 attempts from the charity stripe in the game. UWRF took advantage of their chances, going 24-31 from the line to help ice the game down the stretch.
The Falcons took the lead at 19-18 with 6:09 to play in the first half and never trailed again. The Knights battled back to cut the deficit to two points at 61-59 after an Alex Anthon three-pointer with 5:13 to play in the game, but UWRF responded with a 7-1 run to push the lead back up to eight points before finishing off the game at the free throw line.
MLC finished with four players in double figures, led by 15 from Hannah Hackbarth off the bench. Faith Schroeder finished with 14 points to go with her game high 14 rebounds, while Brittney Gossen and Anthon added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
MLC fell to 11-10 on the season in defeat, while UWRF improved to 6-16 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, February 14, when they travel to North Central for a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
