Women Drop Opener against UW-Oshkosh
STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost its season opener to UW-Oshkosh by the score of 70-48 at a tournament hosted by UW-Stevens Point.
The Knights jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but UW-Oshkosh took control of the game with a 16-1 run on the way to a 31-23 halftime edge.
After a slow start to the second half, Rebecca Engelbrecht made a jump shot with 7:11 to play in the game to cut the MLC deficit back down to eight points, but Alica Tollefsen banked in a three-pointer from the wing on the following possession to stop the Knights' momentum and give Oshkosh the push it neeeded to finish off the game.
Engelbrecht finished as the leading scorer for MLC with 15 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. She also led the Knights with seven rebounds. Hannah Hackbarth added 12 points on 4-7 shooting (3-5 from three-point range), while Alex Anthon had eight points, five steals and four assists.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, November 16) on day two of the UW-Stevens Point tournament when they play the host school at 3 p.m.
