Women Lose at Northland
ASHLAND, Wis. - The MLC women's basketball team was unable to pick up its first win in the UMAC in a 72-60 loss at Northland Friday night.
MLC held a lead early midway through the first half at 18-17, but a 17-2 run by the Lumberjills helped Northland go into the break with a nine-point lead at 36-27.
The Knights continued to fight in the second half, but were unable to cut the deficit closer than seven points at 49-42 with 10:13 to play before Northland stretched the lead back to as high as 19 points, leading to the 12-point Lumberjill win.
Erica Babinec led MLC with with 20 points and ten rebounds for the game, while Brittney Gossen and Sarah Free added 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Northland finished the game shooting 48 percent from the floor compared to MLC's 39.3 percent, and also outscored MLC 16-10 from the free throw line.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-9 overall, and 0-2 in the UMAC, while Northland improved to 7-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, January 15, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a 3 p.m. game.
