Women Unable to Slow Wartburg in Loss
WAVERLY, Iowa - The MLC women's basketball team was unable to slow the Wartburg offense in an 86-52 loss.
Wartburg shot 50.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc for the game, while MLC shot 32.1 percent from the field. Wartburg also outscored MLC 17-12 from the free throw line.
MLC fell behind early in the first half, as Wartburg opened a lead as big as 29 points on the way to a 47-22 halftime lead. Wartburg went 18-31 from the field in the first half, compared to MLC's 8-27.
Wartburg jumped on top of the MLC to start the second half with an 18-5 run, and MLC was never able to cut the deficit inside of 29 points the rest of the way.
Sarah Free and Erica Babinec provided much of the offense for MLC, scoring 19 and 15 points, respectively. Free shot 7-12 from the field and, including 4-7 from the three-point line.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-6 on the season, while Wartburg improved to 8-0 with the win.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, December 11), when it travels to Dubuque for a 2 p.m. game.
