MLC Women Picked Third in UMAC Preseason Poll

last modified 2013-08-28 02:55 PM

ST. PAUL - The MLC women's cross country team was picked to finish third in the UMAC preseason poll released by the conference Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights will welcome two new runners to the roster capable of replacing the two leaders missing from last year's team, which finished fourth and the UMAC Championships.

Emilee Koltz returns for her junior season after an All-UMAC performance a year ago, and will be joined by a group of returners led by Brooke King, Julie Kent and Hannah Hackbarth. Freshman Sarah Hackbarth, a second-team all conference performer from Lakeside Lutheran High School, could join her sister Hannah in MLC's top five. Sophomore Amara Biebert is new to cross country, but boasted a 12:16 3200 meter performance in high school and looks to help strengthen the MLC squad this season.

MLC received 33 points in the poll, eight behind second place Minnesota Morris. St. Scholastica finished first in the poll with the maximum of 49 points (and all seven first place votes).
