MLC Women Roll at Northland
ASHLAND, Wis. - The MLC women's soccer team jumped on Northland early on the way to a 5-1 win Friday.
The Knights broke a scoreless tie in the 15th minute on a goal by Bethany Schultz, and then scored twice more in the next six minutes on goals by Hannah Mattek and Schultz to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
After Northland scored in the 31st minute to cut the lead to 3-1, MLC's Rachel Lindwurm scored late in the first half to push the lead back to three at 4-1 going into the half.
Lauren Maertz would add the final tally for MLC late in the second half to clinch the win.
The two goals give Schultz five on the season, while Mattek and Maertz each scored their fourth for the year. Lindwurm's was her first goal this season.
Keely Keese was the goalkeeper for the Knights, stopping three of the four shots she faced.
MLC improved to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in league play with the win, while Northland dropped to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-4-1 in the UMAC.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 29, when they travel to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica in a game scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
