MLC Women Take Down Lumberjills
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team picked up a much needed win in the standings by the score of 2-1 over Northland Friday.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead no a goal by Hannah Janke off a corner kick from Bethany Schultz.
The Lumberjills frustrated the Knights with a high trap, however, causing a number of offsides penalties on MLC, and then tied the game late in the first half on a penalty kick.
MLC adjusted in the second half, however, and scored the game winner when Hannah Mattek sent home a pass from Kadie Drake in the 56th minute of play.
After being outshot 5-3 in the first half, MLC came back to outshoot Northland 9-3 in the second.
Allison Snyder played well in goal for the Knights, allowing only the one goal on the penalty kick while saving seven shots.
With the win, MLC improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the UMAC, while Northland dropped to 4-10 on the season and 1-8 in league play.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 22), when it hosts St. Scholastica for the home finale starting at 12 p.m.
