Northwestern exploded out of the gates, scoring three times in the first 10:14 of the game to take an early 3-0 lead.

Lauren Maertz put the Knights on the board in the 33rd minute with her eighth goal of the season with an assist to Bethany Schultz, but the Eagles would score shortly after that goal to take a 4-1 halftime lead.

NWC continued to press offensively in the second half, scoring four times off the MLC defense to finish with the 8-1 win.

Maertz and Casey Sauer led the MLC offense with two shots apiece.

MLC dropped to 5-11 on the season and 4-8 in league play with the loss. NWC improved to 9-7-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the UMAC with the win.

The Knights will next play on Friday, October 26, when they host St. Scholastica in a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
