NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College soccer team received two goals from first-year forward Jenna Maurer, but it wasn't to overcome a talented Gustavus Adolphus College team in a 6-2 loss Wednesday.

Jenna Maurer scored two goals in MLC's game against Gustavus

The Gusties scored three times to take a 3-0 lead into the half, but the Knights roared back at the beginning of the second when Maurer twice raced down the left side, connecting with Alyssa Maertz and Bethany Schultz for goals in the 48th and 49th minute that were just 49 seconds apart to cut the MLC deficit to 3-2.

The Gusties would respond, however, adding a pair of goals in the 54th and 55th minutes to build their lead back to three before scoring a final insurance goal in the 82nd minute.

The two goals give Maurer four on the season, tying her with Schultz for the team lead.

Schultz finished with four of the Knights' seven shots, while Keely Keese stopped ten of the 15 shots she faced in goal for MLC.

MLC dropped to 2-2 on the season with the loss, while GAC improved to 3-1 with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Friday, September 20, when they travel to Northwestern for the start of conference play.
